Among Kobolds Below - World domination (2024)

The day starts with a ring, found inside a piece of cooked lizard flesh eaten by Magda. Kass has found an egg, which seems to host another lizard, which should grow to be much bigger than the other lizard. The egg seems cut open, and was found glued to a wall. Next to it, is what looks to be a golden vein. On closer inspection, the lizard is very unusual; the liquid within the egg did not coagulated, although it should have; under it, are scales similar to those on a golden-fish.

We choose to find the kobold encampment, in order to regain ownership over Kass' amulet. Sonir claims to know the way, which should take us roughly 2 days to travel. We pass through an area filled with stalactites and stalagmites. On the way, Kass discovers an altar of sorts; it is a large slab with a sort of geometric feature scratched on it, almost an hexagon, but very crudely done. Upon inspecting them, Seidum feels a rage of sorts taking hold over him. Relatively close-by, we find the skeleton of a man. He wore a cape, a blue one, which lost most of its color by now. His hand is still closed, clutching an item in the past, which is no longer existing in the present.

We continue, to quickly reach a large hall. In its center is a pool, with a very large pillar erecting from its midst. Water is cascading over all its directions, to crash into the pool below, then hiss into steam shortly after. While inspecting the area, we are attacked by a small pack of kobolds, mounted on giant bats. They charge, I get hit, almost driven down into rock of the ground. Lord casts Iron Thunder Horn on one of the riders, blasting it with a blaring sound, nearly dropping it from his flying mount. Kass casts Telekinetic Force, attempting to push the riders of their saddle, but they only drop half prone over the bat they ride. Sonir casts Psionic Daze on one of the bats; it instantly stops moving, staggered. Then, one of the bats retreats. Magda snipes the others wing, slowly it down. Meanwhile, Aner has grown a pair of ectoplasmic wings, and is starting to pursuit the kobolds escaping; Kass is with him, holding tight to him on his back. Shortly behind him, Seidum is moving fast, Hastened by Lord's spell. He jumps, flies thorough the air, his fists glowing bright red, then strikes the flying creature. It drops like a rock into the floor, its riders crashing down with it. On the other bat, one of the kobold panics. He unfastens himself from the harness, then uses a grappling hook to hurl himself through the air; he doesn't reach far, falling to the ground in a heap, as a bolt shot by Magda claims his life. Aner brings one bat down with his spear, Kass deals severe mind damage to the other, using with Psychic Thrust. This brings one of the kobold into surrendering.

Then, a strange turn of events occurs. Aner fumbles, almost crashing into the remaining bat. Kass drop from his back, landing on the feet of the bat instead. But the bat is mad with the pain, and darts away. Seidum is quick to act, and he manages to kill it before it escapes too far. We have two prisoners.

After a short interrogation (Kass speaks Draconian), we learn of a trapped area nearby, and another leading to their base, where roughly 130 of his allies are living. He refuses to remain with us, for it means a sure death for him (his tribe will not forgive him aiding adventurers). Ultimately, Kass Reads his Thoughts to learn whether the information he has given us is truthful. We learn which path is actually safe; he gives us a drawn map which should be accurate. He tells us most of their 130 in numbers are actually eggs and their youth; but there are also the elder, which are much more able in strength; one of them he describes as a Beholder.

Our questioning is so long, that as we are about to conclude it, we are attacked again. Four kobolds in number, accompanied by two beasts, Rust Monsters. It manages to disintegrate the whole set of armor and weapons Ogan is using; it immediately becomes metallic dust. We exchange blows, and the creature dies. Then Lord charges, casting spells at the group coming on our right. The other monster counter-charges him, expecting a fresh meal. Lord however is not affected by her rust-turning antennas; while the whole set of its spear-heads vanishes into motes, he remains whole. Shortly after, the rest of our enemies are dead. Except for Sonir's scimitar, Ogan entire armament, and a single bolt, our gear is intact.

The fight over, we understand time is against us; if we do not strike at their camp fast enough, the kobolds will surely have enough time to fortify against us. We attack.

The first room we enter sharply slopes down. While descending, we realize an overhead balcony is constructed to defend and manned by snipers. A hailstorm of poisoned bolts are shot at our direction while we charge through that gate-keep. Through haste and the spell of Darkness, we manage to cross this gauntlet. Speed on our side, we continue into the next room. Surrounding the higher tier of most of the wall, is a very long balcony, where four kobolds await, holding throwing items. Those are tossed at us; we discover they are bags filled with tentacles (Larval Flayers, oh, the horror!). I am hit right in the face. The tentacles grasp at me, attempting to push into my mind.

Another kobold joins the fray, one which seems enhanced by "illithid technology"; there are tentacles coming out of his head and neck. A trapdoor opens, and what looks to be a kobold bard bolsters the morale of her allies. I manage to get a hold over the creature over my face, but am then blasted by the kobold in front of us. He uses Mind Blast to stun almost half of our party. It is however the last thing he ever does, for the next instant, Aner obliterates him into a mass a flesh and tissue and bones. Next thing, Kass uses Telekinetic Thrust to bash two snipers into the ceiling. They both die from the following drop.

The stun slowly wears off. The aberration over my face sucks at my memory, rending it void with every passing moment. Finally it feels fed enough, drops to the ground, only to be stomped down into purple pulp.

Confused, I must still continue. I concentrate, then use my power to Locate Object. The amulet can be found somewhere below us, rather close-by, following a very narrow corridor. We advance, mutated kobold attempting to stop us. We press through, in the direction of the detected object. I then notice a large floating mass, fear the beholder, then set loose a bolt at its direction.

It isn't even an aberration. It's a Gas Spore. It blows up, spraying spore in every direction. Seidum and I manage to duck in time, Kass is hit. Next thing, Seidum subdues the aberrated kobold. We can search through the room.

Where the Gas Spore floated, there is a 30-feet drop. Below is a cave running with water; small beetles and various junk are all over the place. On the kobold's body, we find Kass' third eye. But since we are already in the depth of their lair, we choose to learn more about the place.

The next room is detailed in the map as the guardsmen's room. Unsurprisingly, it is full with armed kobolds, and other monsters. A summoned aid by Aner is the first to charge, striking at another fiend which looks like a Beholder, but again might not be one. The creature in return, sucks the life out of the conjured, to regain life itself. It doesn't help him for long, as a Power Ray cast by Kass smolders it into unlife (it was actually a Gauth).

A kobold escapes into the next room, calling for reinforcements. There is a commotion coming from the next room, more enemies are about to join. There are more kobolds, a large rock having a myriad of tentacles, a blindfolded female and a hooded tailed creature. We concentrated on killing a large lizard with enormous frontal fangs, still with us in the room. Ogan attempts to heal himself, as the lizard has severely wounded him. Unfortunately, he unleashes something else instead (he fumbled previously). Two walls of fire close on us, conjured out of nowhere; at the same time, several of us are granted a temporal immunity. The fighting continues.

Magda unleashes a bolt into the blind-folded warrior, wounding her somewhat. Sonir then shoots the lizard, taking the remaining life out of it. Next, Kass uses another Telekinetic Thrust, then shoves the warrior, and two of her kobold guards into the walls of fire; the fire cleanses them to their bones, but the warrior survives. Seidum then attempts to grapple the hooded figure, which is unveiled to be a void-minded lizardman. I shoot a thundering bolt at the blind-folded one. Another Thrust is cast, this time on the lizardman. He is thrown into the throne (which has mostly melted from the firestorm). The initiated a chain of events in which the large tentacled stone (a Roper) attack the lizardman.

In the smoke and heat, there is little air. The kobold bard, surrendering, quickly shows us a way into safety. Later, when the fire has consumed itself, we can return to claim the spoils which we have worked so hard for.

There is nursery for the dire bats; a lab meant for grafting, where upgrades are done on kobolds; behind the throne there is a half mined cavern, filled the Khyber dragonshards.
