I didn't interview at either. I think personally...I might choose Pitt over Case Western. You're talking regular Case Western not Cleveland Clinics' smaller program, right?
Pittsburgh is a better city, and the hospital is great. So is the research. Both schools are fantastic so you can't go wrong. I'd pick on location, overall feel.

Pittsburgh. The tuition is cheaper, UPMC might be the most ideal learning environment in the country (so big and all connected in one spot!), and the city / sports are going to be more enjoyable. I didn't interview at Case, but if you can handle the weather, I think Pitt is one of the best Northern schools.

I would vote Case Western. I withdrew from Pitt because of the Honors/Pass/Fail. I think I personally would be happier at a pass/fail school because of less competition/less stress.

Ive talked to a couple of current students who made the same choice too. Just as a thought though, think about comparisons in class size too (I know that Pitt is a large class), since you may have a preference for a large or small class).

case has a larger class (not much larger though)
also the grading systems aren't much different for me (I wouldn't mind either).
i want to go to a school that will give me the best options for coming back to california for competitive residencies. also, i want to go to a city where ill have more fun (nightlife etc)

Good luck with the decision Joker. Besides the nightlife (I think Case loses out there), that is a tough call. I wish you the best of luck in your decision!

I don't think pre-clinical year grades are important, which makes the pre-clinical year grading system fairly irrelevant, which is probably also why schools have varying styles of grading the pre-clincial years but almost every school, including Case, grades the clinical years normally.
Phew, that was a long sentence

I'd go to Pitt, if it's cheaper.

You can't go wrong either way. Pitt was one of my top choices too. In the end for me it just came down to gut feeling because the financial aid was comparable.
Did you go to second looks? If you can, maybe you should go revisit each school or ask the admissions offices to have some students contact you. But don't sweat the decision too much, because you can't make a bad choice. Good luck!

Hey! So just my two cents, I was lucky enough to be accepted at both schools also. Congratulations! They're both phenomenal programs. I personally withdrew from Pitt because I really didn't like the idea of H/P/F in the pre-clinical years (I know pre-clinical grades don't really matter, but I think it still inherently creates competition and therefore more unnecessary stress to have honors included in the grading system. I was also told by students there that it is very difficult to get honors.) That's just my feeling though. I think both schools are affiliated with amazing hospitals, so that isn't an issue, although I guess I lean more towards the Cleveland Clinic. I also got much more of "fun, relaxed" vibe from the student body Case, although, again, that is totally personal opinion. I think you mentioned residency matches, and I would definitely urge you to google both Pitt's and Case's match list. I think they were both amazing, and you wouldn't be limited in your residency choices at either school. Wherever you decide to go, and maybe we'll be classmates next year!

I was just telling IHeartSleep that I love Case versus X threads. What is more fun than telling a complete stranger over the internet what to do with their life based on a couple sentences worth of info?
But seriously, I don't have a strong feeling either way in your case. I think you should just go with your gut.

In my experience things are very different between having grades and not. Our school has pure p/f 1st year and grades 2nd year, trust me, there's a difference haha.

I know, I always laughed when other people made these threads, but Im actually taking all the advice/opinions posted here seriously. I hear a ton about case from all over this forum, but rarely hear much about pitt. The pitt secondary thread is also fairly dead most of the time. I know both schools are reputable and strong, which makes the choice that much harder

I would choose Pittsburgh, based on city and reputation.

Pitt is awesome-they just don't have as many bored students on SDN to promote their school.
So seriously, I really liked Pitt. It seems like these two schools tend to attract a lot of the same people, and if you like one, you'll probably like them both. That's definitely how it was for me. Their CSTP is a five year research program kind of similar to CCLCM, which is what I would have done if I had gone there. Like I said before, in the end it was just a gut feeling thing, not that I didn't like Pitt as much. I really don't think you can go wrong either way-I would tell you if I did. You have to just take a deep breath and commit to one of them. Good luck!
