Midnight

The clink of glass echoed as the Yatoga drank. Today, a great feast was before them at the table. Fluxis’ hands were many as he grabbed so many food items, creating afterimages with his speed.

“Congratulations again for completing your mission, you two,” Cheeta beamed as she poured Joe and Aka a bottle of some soft drink.

“Why can't I drink…that?” Joe complained, pointing at the bottle of champagne in the middle. Priona and Alicia were next to each other, laughing heartily and drinking.

“Cause you're too young,” Cheeta replied, as if she was answering a five year old.

“It's not like anyone here's gonna report me or anything!” His words were as good as they had been against Alicia, as Cheeta walked back to the other two women. Joe scowled as he sipped his own drink. It had a bubbly, lemon flavour.

“Don’t worry, Joe,” Aka said brightly, facing him on her own chair. “Alcohol doesn't taste good anyway.” She held up her own glass, eyeing the bubbles in mild fascination. “Last time I drank it, I spat it out all over Cheeta!” She giggled and took a deep sip of her drink, before suddenly spewing it all over Joe. She coughed and spluttered madly.

“Not again…” he heard Fluxis mutter. He looked down at his shirt, which was now soaked.

“S-sorry Joe!” Aka apologised. “I didn't…” she coughed more. “...didn't know it was so fizzy!”

“Classic Aka,” Cheeta smiled. She snapped her fingers, and a warm feeling brushed over Joe's chest. All of a sudden, his shirt felt completely dry.

“Thanks, Cheeta,” Joe sighed. A burst of raucous laughter came from Alicia and Priona. He added in a low mutter, “They became best friends real fast.”

“I know right?” Aka agreed, as she leant back on her chair, balancing it on its hind legs. “She was all mad about you just looking at her, but Alicia nearly killed her…even I've done worse than you and she likes me!”

“That's Priona for you,” Fluxis said, leaning towards them and lowering his voice. “They call her “the man hater”.

“Oh, wow!” Aka gasped. “I didn't know you went by that, Fluxis! When did you start?”

“What?” Fluxis frowned, not understanding. Aka's blue eyes flashed with mischief.

“Did you get that, Joe? Be patient with Fluxis, they refer to themselves in the third person.” Aka's straight face began to quiver as fury etched across Fluxis.

“Piss off,” Fluxis snapped, shifting back to his spot.

Aka giggled and Joe smiled in amusem*nt too.

“Bye bye, sir them!” She called after him. He stuck his middle finger back and Aka burst into peals of laughter.

“Fluxis is a dummy,” she explained to Joe. “He only messes with Priona cause it's easy to get under her skin. He won't try anything with the rest of us, especially not Egg.”

“Don’t blame him for that,” Joe replied.

“Yeah, he can be scary, like he was back at the water place.”

“Where did he go anyway?”

“To his family, I guess,” Aka shrugged. “They live in a small farmhouse which is under Cheeta's protection. He doesn't want them involved in the Yatoga stuff.”

“Have you met them then?” Joe asked curiously. Aka nodded.

“Yeah, his wife's really nice and pretty! And they have a baby there too! He's sooo cute! ‘Course, Egg had me swear on my life that I wouldn't use my powers or mention anything about Yatoga. She thought I was a client from some boring office job that she thinks he works at.”

“Lying to your family constantly must be tough,” Joe considered.

“Yeah, I guess so. Though I never really got to know mine well so I wouldn't know,” Aka said airly.

“What happened to them?” Joe asked sharply. Aka hesitated, her mouth faltering.

“Joe?” Cheeta called. Joe looked up to see her standing over them on the opposite side of the table, holding the rifle he'd seen her arrive with.

“Sorry to ruin your conversation, but I'd like to show you something in private.”

“How come he's allowed?” Fluxis protested.

“Because you and I have a different range of implications for the word ‘private’,” Cheeta responded coolly. “Now, if you'd follow me, Joe.” Joe stood up and followed her out of the room. He turned back to wave at Aka but was hit with a shocking sight.

Aka's face was screwed up, her eyes watery. Her lips quivered as she stared down into her glass. Joe froze in shock.

“Everything alright?” Cheeta asked.

“Yeah,” Joe answered quickly. She opened the door for him. He walked through it to see a large workshop. At one table was a mortar and pestle, the size of a dinner plate. On another was an assortment of weapons.

“Those ones are nothing special,” Cheeta said as Joe stared at them. “Just ordinary, near useless weapons.”

“That's motivating,” Joe said sarcastically, thinking of his own ability.

“Oh, I didn't mean it that way!” she quickly rectified. “Your ability is extraordinary, and far from useless! But what I wanted to show you…” She held out the sniper rifle, placing it on a desk. “...was this.” Joe looked down at it. The design indeed looked unlike that of a regular weapon. The exterior of the gun was red, and he could see some sort of yellow essence within it. On the body of the rifle was like three white, hook-like fangs.

“What is this?” He questioned.

“That's what I thought when I felt my eyes telling me the average heat wouldn't melt this thing. So after I did, I decided to come back later and restore it. This is a Demonic Weapon.” Ice crept across his spine at those words.

“Demonic?” He gazed at the gun tensely. What did that mean? Was a demon in it?

“There's no demon in it,” Cheeta clarified. “That's simply a classification made for top class weapons made by evil hands. Even I have no idea how they're made. Egg's axe is actually a Demonic Weapon too. It's called ‘Destroyer of Worlds’.”

“Wow…” Joe breathed, stunned by this new information. “Who made it for him?” As he spoke, he noticed Cheeta's hand grip the desk.

“No one of importance,” She replied calmly.

“What? But…he made a top class weapon! How's he not-”

“Cause he's gone,” Cheeta muttered. All the warmth from her voice had suddenly faded. Joe sensed he was treading dangerous fields with his line of conversation.

“Ok, I'll just…go back-”

“Not yet,” Cheeta interrupted. “I haven't shown you the gun's capabilities.” She clicked her fingers and in a small pillar of white flames, one of the red suits of armour suddenly appeared before them.

“Now, I want you to create a weapon to destroy this.”

“Sure.” Joe formed one of the rocket launchers he'd used against Bull, his mind intent on destroying the statue. As he fired the weapon, it exploded in a resounding boom. However, as the smoke cleared, Joe was shocked to see the armour didn’t even have a dent in it. His jaw dropped open.

“As you can see, the armour is infused with defensive Core. That's why your weapon couldn't do any damage. However…” She picked up the rifle and pulled at the centre of the three rows of hook-like teeth. The sniper rifle somehow formed into an assault rifle, with the same design as before on its altered frame. Cheeta then pointed the gun at the armor and squeezed it slightly. Loud zaps racketed as energy bolts fired from the gun, completely boring holes through the armour. Cheeta raised the nozzle to her lips and blew the smoke away. “That's the power of a Demonic Weapon.”

A while later, Joe felt his brain hurting. Cheeta had taken the gun apart in both its forms and explained the gun in so much detail that he felt he was back in school.

“Got everything?” Cheeta asked, looking at him once she was done.

“Yeah,” he nodded.

“Alright, then I'll let you get back to Aka. I see you two have grown close over your mission.” Joe nodded, but Cheeta's smile made him feel awkward. Was she thinking of a different type of ‘close’?. “No, I don't mean romantically,” she added.

“Is that sword Alicia had a Demonic Weapon too?” Joe asked Cheeta as they walked side by side.

“Oh no, that's a God weapon. ‘Genesis’ is its name. Alicia also has a Devil Blade too, called ‘Interius’. The God and Devil weapons are the pinnacle of weapons, hood and evil. They cannot be crafted by hand, they simply were and are.”

They soon returned to the dinner hall.

“Hey, Joe!" Aka called, a wide grin across her face, giving Joe a striking contrast to the last time he'd seen her. He smiled back and made his way to his seat.

“Oh yeah, Joe, you'll be training with me as a Yatoga,” Cheeta announced. “But Priona will train you physically.”

“What?!” Joe and Priona yelled simultaneously.

"Thank you for your cooperation," Cheeta beamed, while Priona scowled and slouched. Alicia stood up.

"Well, I'd better be going," she declared, seizing Priona's shoulders and enveloping her in a hug. "Thank you for the wonderful fight."

"Bye, Alicia!" Aka waved, rushing over as Alicia let go of Priona and embraced Aka.

"Sorry about earlier," Alicia murmured.

"It's okay." Alicia then released Aka and approached Joe, who remained seated, mirroring Priona's previous slouched posture.

“We'll definitely meet again,” She told him. Then she put her hand to her lips, as if muffling herself, and said, “watch out for the Darkest One.“

“What?!” Joe sat up immediately, but Alicia was suddenly dragged away by Cheeta. “Wait! What's the Darkest One? Who's that?”

“Not a word,” Cheeta snapped at Alicia. Joe sensed her fury, reminiscent of the time Hammerhead had hurt him.

“You didn't hear anything from me!” Alicia yelled back, Cheeta forcibly escorting her away. She pointed at her chest, then at a startled Aka, and finally at her own eyes. That was all Joe caught before she was forcefully ejected from the mansion. The doors slammed with a deafening boom.
