Is this ID fake? ›

A fake ID is often of lower quality and may have printing errors, incorrect font, or blurry images. A real ID is high quality and has clear accurate information and pictures. Security features. Most of the time, the bartender or a bouncer will take the fake ID from the person and destroy it. In this case, someone will go to jail or get an NTA if the owner insists on it or the person refuses to leave or causes a scene in the bar/club.

Of 14,000 fake IDs seized in 2020, 97% of those were shipped from either China or Hong Kong. Sophisticated fake IDs represent a risk to businesses who may unknowingly serve minors, even with stringent manual age verification processes in place.

Filtering Fakes Without Friction

Fake IDs are hard to weed out. But the right ID or passport scanner solution, deployed at border control and security touchpoints, can catch the fakes without negatively impacting passenger flow.

How to check if fake ID scans? ›

Many states use barcodes on their IDs that can be scanned to verify their authenticity. To do this, you need a barcode scanner or a smartphone app that can read the encoded information. After scanning the barcode, cross-check the decoded information with the details on the front of the ID.

Oftentimes fake IDs will have the individual's image photoshopped onto the ID, it is best to look for discoloration, an abnormal background, if the individual has sharp edges around the face, and if the small image of the individual does not match the larger one.

Feel the identification to check the card's rigidity, a fake ID will often have different weight and/or thickness of a real ID. Check the identification card's edges, the edges should be smooth and rounded around the entire card. Lifted corners may be a sign of a fake ID.
